Lobster Fishing

The best season in Southern California (and possibly the only season)… LOBSTER SEASON! From early October until mid March lobster season is open and what a fun way to spend an evening on the water. We’ll head out from the dock about an hour before sunset and if conditions look nice we’ll set the sails for the trip to the fishing grounds. Lobsters like to hide in rock structures during the day but as soon as the sun sets they scurry out in search of food. Once they fill up, they head back to their rocks. So just a bit before the sun sets we’ll drop a line of hoop nets and cross our fingers. We’ll typically wait about half an hour during which time we might sip on a cocktail, snack on cheese and crackers, strum some guitar, and otherwise just enjoy the moment. When the time is up we’ll start pulling pots. Sometimes they come up empty. Sometimes all you hear in the darkness is hooting, hollering, and the sound of lobster tails clapping. We’ll reset the nets three or four times until we either catch limits (7 per person) or feel like heading in.

If you’ve never been out hoop netting for lobster and you live in Southern California (or not) you really owe it to yourself to come give it a try!

Lobster Fishing

What to expect

Lobster fishing in southern California is an absolute blast but keep in mind that we will be in the open ocean during the winter months. We do the best we can to keep it comfortable but things can get rocky, rolly, and a bit wet. On cold nights we can light a fire in the fireplace to make things nice and cozy. If you are prone to seasickness of have any concerns in this regard let us know when you book and we’ll let you know what seems to work best. We will leave the dock at 5pm and return around 9pm. All fishing equipment and bait is included. At the end of the night you’ll keep your catch and be ready for one heck of a lobster boil. You’ll be the envy of all your friends and family.

$800 for four hours for up to six people. Inclusive of bait and fishing equipment.
